What’s it really like being a psychic medium?

Rosie Morgan is a Psychic Medium and Crystal Healer. With a background in psychology, she has now developed a combined approach, incorporating both spiritual and therapeutic stances in her work. Through her mediumship, Rosie communicates with loved ones, people, and Angels to deliver messages and guidance. I met Rosie at a networking event and was instantly drawn to her warmth and energy, so I decided to book my own reading with her. I came away feeling so held, guided and connected to spirit, which is one of the reasons Rosie offers readings…

Q: From your experience what are the main benefits people take away from a reading?

A: Readings can provide a deeper sense of connection and a feeling of being guided. My work is about encouraging you and supporting you, it isn’t something to be afraid of. It’s about offering a hand of love from the other side and reminding people that there’s something else out there looking out for them. A connection to something bigger than yourself.

I also find it can offer closure, especially if something has felt really deep. Spirit might just want to let you know that they are alright, and also that they are still involved. There's a strengthening of faith in the seen and the unseen as people often realise that there’s no way I could know some of these things. I also find readings bring clarity in situations, or a second opinion. People might be thinking about making some changes and when they get a message from spirit that confirms they are making the right decision it can really help to cement what they were feeling.

Q: When did you first realise you were a psychic?

A: I first saw spirit when I was 6. My grandfather passed away and that evening he was at the end of my bed talking to me. It’s always a bit tricky answering this question as it’s something that’s always been there since I was little but I never fully realised what it was. When I first fully appreciated what was going on I was 26, a full 20 years later, and loads of things started happening. I’d had a couple of bereavements and I was on my psychology course and I just knew things about people before they even said anything.

I have always felt very guided and felt the presence of spirit, but I’ve always just had a lot going on, including some near death experiences. Despite my age I’ve had quite a life! When I left home and moved to London to start my studies it’s like the flood gates opened. I didn’t have a definitive moment growing up where I was like ‘I’m a psychic medium’, but at 26 I went to see a psychic and she helped me make sense of it all.

Q: Do you think there’s a lot of people that have spiritual experiences throughout their life but because they are shut off from that world they don’t realise their gifts?

A: We all are on some level psychic, although mediumship is a little different. There can be significant life events that awaken you to this world. When I look back on the time I fully realised my gifts I’d had quite significant health issues and near death experiences. I think that was part of my awakening process.

Q: What is the best and worst part of being a psychic medium?

A: Being a psychic medium is really fulfilling and meaningful. It’s also quite an experience to have people come forward, and to intimately know about people's lives and things that are going on. You feel an immediate connection with people. I feel so blessed that I get to do this and I believe this is the reason I’m here on earth. It’s such a variety and no day is the same.

The challenging parts are sometimes disclosing what you do from a fear of judgment, and having to be careful about how people might receive what you do. I’m always quite considerate to how people might respond to it. Connection to spirit can also be quite tiring as well. I always say it’s not like a job, it’s your life. You can dial it down, but it’s always there all the time. You can’t tell spirit your working hours! I might be on a night out or on the bus and someone will come through. But I’m not one of these people who will give you a message randomly, I’m very careful ethically. But I do think spirit are very clever, they will know when to come in.

Q: How do you receive messages from the other side?

A: Most of the time I will feel physical sensations when figuring out who the person is. It might be an ailment that was really significant in that person's life that I’ll feel physically. I had someone come through who was in the army and I had the physical sensation of a jab in my side. It turns out that person had been shot in the same place. Or I might have a mini heart palpitation indicating I’m speaking to someone who had heart problems. They may not always have something physical to offer me, so in that case they may show me what their job was or what was important in their life. It might just be a word, an image or a smell. Sometimes it’s just a knowing. There might be a word I keep wanting to say, for example ‘I keep wanting to call you Geneveive’ and then the person in the reading relates to the name straight away. I’m a bit like a detective trying to piece all of these signs together and work out what they are trying to communicate. It’s a really hard thing to explain how it works!

Q: Can you have a 2 way conversation with spirit?

A: Its not always a standard conversation like you and I would have, they might just show me something or an image. Each spirit communicates differently. It can sometimes just be a shiver or a sensation. Sometimes I’ll get told to just write something down, not always knowing what it means. My grandad once said the word totem pole to me, and I only realised later when we found his memoirs that there was a picture of him in front of a totem pole during his time in Canada. I wouldn’t have known anything about that.

Q: Can you give some other examples of how you’ve communicated with spirit?

A: I was running late for something once and I said to spirit ‘I need an uber, can you please just sort it’. I got a driver straight away and they had such a spiritual name, you couldn’t write it. As soon as I sat down in the car I had someone coming in from the other side. I got chatting to the driver and he disclosed that he’d just had someone pass away. I started to get loads of stuff coming through from spirit. I asked his permission to share and he was happy to receive. They communicated that they’d really liked the flowers they had after they’d passed and that whenever the bereaved driver sees flowers then that’s them thinking about him. We then literally turned the corner and there was this massive flower stall! I believe that when I asked spirit for help he was sent to me for a reason. I put that request out there and spirit delivered - it was helping me but this spirit also saw it as an opportunity to come in so I could pass on this message. From what we were talking about in the car he really needed that message that day.

Sometimes before I do a show, spirit will come to me and say there’s going to be a woman that's wearing a purple jumper (for example) and you need to go to her. And then there she will be and there’s a whole big story of why she’s wearing that particular jumper. I think sometimes I’m still like woah did that really happen?

Q: How has being connected to spirit helped you in your own life?

A: It’s completely guided me. It’s helped me in everything. It’s not always easy, spirit have this wonderful way of challenging you, but I have this sense of knowing I’m guided. It's given me a bigger sense of trust and courage, like I know I can navigate whatever comes my way. There's so much out there looking over us and it's just about being open to it.

Q: The fact that you can connect with spirit, why can’t you ask spirit what happens when you die? Why does this still remain a mystery?

A: I suppose if I think about it, spirit will give us messages and inspiration about things we already know about in this reality from being human and living on earth, so how can they give us messages or information about things we don’t know about or have never experienced or even fathom in our minds. This is just my perspective, but I almost wonder whether we’re not supposed to know. We’re here to live out this experience and death is just the reintroduction back to spirit. I think that’s where I’m at with it at the moment. It’s about living in the here and now and some things are meant to remain a mystery until it’s our time to know them.

Q: What is your message to people who are sceptical over the work you do?

A: Each to their own. This has been a  lesson but I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. I fully accept why someone may be sceptical as it’s something that none of us can quite fathom. I just ask for mutual respect. I trust that if we’re meant to have a conversation then we will. I’m not here to change anyone's beliefs, that’s up to you. I always ask spirit to reach out to people that need it the most. It doesn’t phase me if someone doesn’t believe in what I do.

Q: Do you fear death?

A: I think because I’ve had quite a few near brushes with death it’s a bit of an old friend! It’s not a direct yes or no. I’d lean more towards no because it’s something I encounter every day, and knowing that there’s some kind of release in that and when it's our time it's our time. I think I mostly fear not making the most of my time on earth rather than death itself. It’s a fear of cutting life short on earth.

Q: And finally, what’s the most common message you get from spirit?

A: The message I most often get from spirit, especially from those who have passed earlier than anticipated, or unexpectedly, is enjoy the here and now, because we don’t know what’s around the corner. They don’t want you to be trapped with the feeling of grief, they want you to enjoy your life and make the most of it while you can. To embrace the changes. You’ve still got your time on earth so be in it, because the time is now.
