What is Ayurveda?

You may not have heard of Ayurveda before, but it’s one of the oldest medical systems in the world, with teachings built upon a vast body of information over thousands of years. That’s pretty hard to ignore if you think about it. It’s known as the science of life and is focused around bringing harmony and balance back to the body. Ayurveda is a beautiful, individualised approach to wellness and believes everyone has a unique body and is born with a dosha balance. The goal of Ayurveda is to maintain or restore that unique balance by applying opposites. This is a concept most of us will already be familiar with, for example if you want to counterbalance the feeling of heaviness, you create more activity for the body and move it.

Why I love Ayurveda

What I love most about Ayurveda is that it is more concerned with addressing the root cause of symptoms, rather than just the symptoms themselves. Finding where the imbalance is and restoring the body back to equilibrium. It utilises the elements of the earth to nurture and heal us holistically. But Ayurveda isn’t just about healing our bodies from disease (whether mental or physical). It’s preventative care centred around living a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Ayurveda is a way of life, a beautiful ancient teaching that helps you understand your one-of-a-kind body better.
